The evidence51 measures · 102 reasons · 29 firsts

Every measure, with its source.

Everything the story rests on, in one place. A first is 1st of all fifty states, ties included, in a ranking from the last ten years; a 1st of fewer states, or from an older edition, is shown but not counted. Select any measure for its figures, its reasons and its source.

      Reading the evidence

      • Evidence grade. A: a primary source, such as the Census Bureau or the CDC. B: a reputable secondary source that reports it. Nothing below B is used.
      • Ties are read from each state's figures, and shown as ties.
      • The average state is the plain mean of the fifty states' figures, without D.C.
      • Only, Largest mark facts that aren't rankings, and are never counted as firsts.
      • Reason numbers stay the same from one update to the next; a gap is a reason the data no longer supports.
